Science and Spirits is back!

The Departments of Crop Sciences and Plant Biology in collaboration with the Crop Sciences Graduate Student Organization and the Plant Biology Association of Graduate Students are pleased to present the next Plant Biology and Crop Sciences Academic Mixer.

To encourage interdepartmental collaborations and networking, this semester's event will include lightning talks and a relaxed poster session with bar service and hors d'oeuvres provided.

Schedule

3:00-4:30pm: Poster Setup

4:00pm: Event Begins

4:30-4:45pm: Event Welcome Speech - Stage 5

4:45-5:45pm: Lightning Talks - Stage 5

5:45-6:15pm: Poster Session A (odd numbered posters) - Foellinger Great Hall Foyer

6:15-6:45pm: Poster Session B (even numbered posters) - Foellinger Great Hall Foyer

6:45-7:00pm: Presentation of lightning talk awards and concluding remarks

Dress code: Casual but professional

Lightning Talks

Objectives

• Concisely and effectively present your research and research goals
• Encourage conversation between colleagues
• Connect your research to the broader picture

Guidelines

• Topic must be clear and backed up with data from your research
• Power point presentation format at the deiscretion of the presenter to encourage creativity
• Four minutes for presentations
• One minute for questions
• Maximum of five slides (including title slide)

Tips

• Figures say more than words
• Use animation to kep focus on important results
• Do not get too technical; use simple explanations as you would a general audience
